The Tecma Elegance is the premium toilet system from Thetford Marine, used in luxury boats and motorhomes throughout Europe. As many larger RVs now feature substantial black water holding tanks, macerating toilets are becoming standard installations and popular upgrades over traditional gravity or dump toilet systems.
The gravity system is common in narrowboats and RVs, where the toilet is installed directly over the black tank. The flush action simply opens a flap at the bottom of the toilet, allowing gravity to do the rest. However, this system can lead to complications and unpleasant odors. A macerating toilet is much more pleasant to use and maintain.
The Tecma Elegance is available in two heights; this lower unit is perfect for replacing gravity toilets or for new constructions. Its compact design allows for the creation of a small platform to place the toilet above, effectively concealing additional plumbing or raising the black tank level to maximize capacity.
CamperHappy provides this toilet with an easy-to-use all-in-one control panel, allowing you to select between flush or fill. The flush cycle can be adjusted to use more or less water, and we recommend using it in the minimum setting. The control panel can also be connected to a tank level meter to prevent use when the tank is full, although we typically monitor the standard tank meter.
Installing the toilet in an RV is simple. Complete instructions are included, but essentially, you connect a pressurized water supply to the toilet via the provided solenoid. The toilet's discharge is plumbed to your black tank using a flexible sanitation hose with a 38 mm ID (available separately), and connects through a protected 12-volt source. If you’re installing it in a tank with a larger inlet, we can assist in fabricating an adapter piece. A 24-volt version is also available.
Manufactured and designed in Italy, the fit and finish of these toilets are exceptional, from the soft-close seat to the ceramic bowl. They are built to last, and replacement parts and service kits are available, although we expect them to last a long time with normal use.
As with all portable toilets, dispose of only human waste and toilet paper. The macerator makes it easier to empty your black tank and helps keep it free from solids that can cause clogs, but it cannot handle wipes or hygiene products. The macerator pump performance meets all quality standards, and the technology inside the toilet has been developed further to minimize sound emissions. Water and electricity consumption is kept to a minimum. Installation, plumbing, and electrical connections are quick and easy, with virtually no maintenance required.
