Flexible Couplings for Boat Propeller Shafts
Manufactured by R&D Marine, this flexible coupling is designed to be installed between the boat's propeller shaft coupling and the gearbox output coupling. Crafted from a new type of durable polyester elastomer, the curved flexible disc allows for free movement, accommodating any temporary misalignment of the engine and propeller shaft due to the boat's structural flex or engine movement on its rubber mounts.
The forward thrust is absorbed in compression by the coupling disc between the two coupling halves, while reverse thrust is taken up in compression by the coupling disc between the two safety belts. A standout safety feature of the R&D 910 series flexible couplings is that in the unlikely event of a coupling disc failure, the steel belts ensure that the coupling remains secure, maintaining the propeller shaft drive in both forward and reverse.
